Every life has a number. When yours hits zero, you die.

The Boat Girl is a YA dystopia for fans of The Hunger Games and The Grace Year.

She lives on a rogue island inhabited one hundred years ago, where social status is currency, and the weak and strong are pitted against each other.

All of this, created by a villain who holds a century old grudge against her family, and she’s the one remaining member.

To survive, she must lie, steal, and fight, all while facing her inner demons, deepest vulnerabilities, and the complication of a growing interest in someone she’s been taught is the enemy.

The story behind the story

When I was six, I became part of a story the whole world was watching.

I interacted with the most powerful people in the world. Stood alongside some of the most vulnerable. Learned that what we choose to live for is one of the most important parts of life.

And I also learned that sometimes life and death hang on perception. Tragedy can keep people stuck. But one person’s hope can change the world.

That’s the core of my debut, a YA dystopia about a girl learning she doesn’t have to overcome the past before making an impact on the present.

I’ve spent ten years in the publishing world: writing content for bestselling authors, editing manuscripts for authors, teaching the craft…and compiling ideas for my own novel.
